/ˈvɜːrʧʊəl tiːmz/
A virtual team is a team of people who work together from different geographical locations. They communicate and coordinate their work through digital means rather than being physically together in the same place. These teams, which may also be known as remote, distributed, or geographically dispersed teams, rely on technology such as email, instant messaging, and video conferencing to execute their work. Virtual teams are marked by flexibility with regard to location and time of work. Organizations have the ability to exploit a wider talent pool and work across different time zones, thus improving productivity and work-life balance. However, the challenges raised by virtual teams are those related to communication, trust, and team building; effective leadership and technological tools will go a long way in overcoming these obstacles.
